If you haven’t already, please mark your calendars. Pullen Park’s Grand Opening celebration will be on November 19! There will be music and family friendly activities throughout the weekend. Pullen Place will be open for business, serving items from our opening menu at the Cafe building just as you enter the park and at several satellite stations within the park. Stay tuned for more details about the activities planned for opening weekend as well as a sneak peek at our menu.
If you can’t make it opening weekend, come visit us in the weeks after the 19th. The park will be open from 10AM to 6PM, 7 days a week throughout November and December (with the exception of the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays). Also note that, unlike past years, the park will remain open in January and February, though hours may change slightly.
We are very excited about our partnership with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle (IFFS) to improve access to healthy foods, support local farms, and provide hands-on job development and training in our community. Pullen Place will be buying produce grown at the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s farm. This will provide the Cafe with exceptionally fresh, local produce while generating a steady revenue stream for IFFS programs. Additionally, youth participating in IFFS’s Young Farmer Training Program will gain authentic learning opportunities in the areas of farm management and entrepreneurship.
In the months to come, we will be working to set up an externship position at Pullen Place for recent graduates of IFFS’s Culinary Training Program and creating a Community Nutrition and Local Food Outreach position based at Pullen Park. This person will be responsible for developing events, workshops, and ongoing activities that engage the broader community in preparing and sharing fresh, local foods and learning about health and nutrition.
